t o i l a n d t r o u b l e - - - Juniper sat silently in the corner of a small coffee shop, people-watching over a mocha. Her now near-permanent sunglasses rested on her nose, and they didn't even look too out of place. The wall facing the street was more window than anything else, and rays of sun were streaming in, illuminating the dust motes. She tilted her mug slightly, and the few drops of remaining coffee swirled around the bottom of her cup.
Regardless of what the tabloids liked to write about her, she was quite content to be taking a break from acting. It gave her time to focus on things that were more for herself, such as leisure and relaxation, friendships, and the kinds of things that were important to 19-year-olds.
She stood up and shouldered her bag, and left the comforting warmth of the café for the outdoors. A pleasantly warm breeze rifled through her short hair, but she only had a few moments to enjoy the weather, because next thing she knew she was tossed onto the sidewalk, someone having walked right into her. Her sunglasses fell off her face and skittered along the concrete for a few feet before coming to a halt. Dazed, she glanced up at whoever had knocked her over. - - - s o m e t h i n g w i c k e d t h i s w a y c o m e s - - -

Jayden looked down at the small girl he had knocked to the sidewalk. He wanted to shout at her for running into him, but he knew that it had been his fault; he had been distracted on his mobile, trying to find suitable music to run through his headphones. "I'm sorry," he said, which was something that didn't come out of his mouth on a regular basis. He held out his hand to the woman. "Are you all right?"

t o i l a n d t r o u b l e - - - Juniper looked up at the guy who'd knocked her over. The first thing she noticed about him was his accent, which was one of the few British ones she'd heard since moving to America. "Fine, thanks," she replied, ignoring the hand he offered and deciding to stand up on her own, of which she was perfectly capable thank you very much.
She brushed non-existent dust off the front of her dress, and picked up her sunglasses, before turning to the man. "Sorry about that," she added as an afterthought, because even if it had been his fault, it's always nice to apologize. - - - s o m e t h i n g w i c k e d t h i s w a y c o m e s - - -

He frowned at the refusal of his hand, but noted that she had a Manchester accent. He hadn't met many people from the UK since coming to America two years ago, and it was nice to hear the familiar lilt of a British tone. "S'not your fault," Jayden said, shifting the satchel on his hip. "I wasn't paying any attention to where I was going." He waved his mobile, which had his headphones plugged into it. "I was looking for something to listen to."

t o i l a n d t r o u b l e - - - Juniper blinked blankly for a moment. Then, placing her sunglasses on her head, she smiled. "Oh. What're you listening to?" she asked quietly, trying to make conversation. She wasn't one to make conversation much, simply because people didn't care much for talking to her, unless they were around her level of fame. Any below, and it was simply asking for an autograph.
So why was she bothering? For one, he was British, and while it wasn't all too significant, it gave her some semblance of comfort. For another, he either hadn't recognized her yet, or he wasn't bringing it up, which suited her just fine. She rather disliked it when people stopped her in the street and asked her for her autograph, even if she complied, seemingly happy. - - - s o m e t h i n g w i c k e d t h i s w a y c o m e s - - -

Jayden unlocked his mobile screen and held it out to the woman, who looked vaguely familiar, although he couldn't really place where he might have seen her before. He didn't generally talk to people, and he hadn't talked to anyone from Europe in a long time. "Vanessa-Mae's version of Tocatta and Fugue. It's absolutely gorgeous. Have you heard it before?" www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jey-OmaKUM&feature=youtu.be^Tocatta and Fugue

t o i l a n d t r o u b l e - - - Juniper arched an eyebrow, but not in a condescending manner. So he was a classical music fan, huh. June herself had never been one of those classical know-it-alls about music; she simply enjoyed what sounded like. Of course, that didn't mean that she didn't listen to classical music every now and then, just not avidly. But the type of music one listens to can say oh-so much about a person.
Classical... Juniper wracked her brain for who else she knew who liked classical music. Her parents both had, and a director she'd worked with once, a few co-workers a while ago. Introverted, intelligent, thoughtful, the likes. She wondered if this applied to the man too, but of course she couldn't go making generalizations based on one song alone.
She shook her head. "Can't say I have," she admitted, shrugging. - - - s o m e t h i n g w i c k e d t h i s w a y c o m e s - - -

"Well, if you get the chance, you should definitely give it a listen," he said. "Vanessa-Mae plays it on the electric violin, and it's... well, it's quite remarkable, really." He offered a rare smile. "I didn't manage to catch your name." He wasn't quite sure why he was making an effort with the woman he had bowled over on the street, but she seemed like a nice enough lady, and what could it hurt? He needed more acquaintances. He was practically a hermit when it came to social interactions.

t o i l a n d t r o u b l e - - - Juniper smiled, nodding. "Will do," she assures him. She's nearly taken aback when he smiles, because for one he didn't look like he did it very often, and for another it made him look like a completely new person, the kind of person you'd see on the street and instantly want to befriend. Her smile widened.
"Juniper Greenwood," she answered him after some hesitation, as she was now certain he'd recognize her immediately. Damn it all, right when she was thinking they were getting somewhere, her stupid famous name had to rear its ugly head. "I didn't catch yours either, I believe," she said quickly, in a last-ditch attempt to halt his response. - - - s o m e t h i n g w i c k e d t h i s w a y c o m e s - - -

Jayden scratched his head with a long, pale finger for a moment, and his silver wrist-watch slid down his arm. "Juniper... Juniper... Aren't you an actress or something of the like?" he asked, becoming slightly frustrated that he couldn't figure out who she was. The name rang a bell, but not a large one. He held out his hand, the one that didn't have his mobile in it, for her to shake. "I'm Jayden Grey." He wasn't well known at all, really, save for a few pubs around town where he liked to play piano at night.

t o i l a n d t r o u b l e - - - Juniper nodded, unsure whether she should be offended that he doesn't know who she is, or relieved. On one hand, it was a testament to her fame that he even partially recognized her, but still, it wasn't the kind of reaction she usually got. And, of course, him not recognizing her meant stealing a few more moments of pleasant, casual conversation, something that was rare for her nowadays.
"Yeah. Something of the like," she mumbled, suddenly feeling rather self-conscious. Grateful for the change of subject, she shook his hand. "Nice to meet you then, Jayden Grey," she said, smiling softly. - - - s o m e t h i n g w i c k e d t h i s w a y c o m e s - - -

Jayden squeezed Juniper's hand, noting that she had a nice, firm handshake. "It was very nice to meet you," he said, shifting from foot to foot. "If you're not busy, would you like to get a cup of coffee sometime?" Again, he's flabbergasted by his own words. A cup of coffee? A cup of coffee? Since when does he ask women out for cups of joe? He sighs internally and shakes his head slightly, as if to clear it. He's only trying to make a friend, really.

t o i l a n d t r o u b l e - - - Juniper smiled, feeling rather like she's just made a friend, which was a rare enough occurance owing to the fact that most people were simply interested in her with regards to her fame, and not much else. Though she was slightly surprised by the request, because she'd had him pegged for gay after the first few minutes of conversation. Oh well, all that meant was that she either misjudged his sexuality, or his intent, probably the latter.
"Sounds great," she replied, grinning. "Shall I give you my number?" she suggested, beginning to root around her bag for her phone, and pulling it out a moment later. - - - s o m e t h i n g w i c k e d t h i s w a y c o m e s - - -

Jayden handed Juniper his phone and took hers in his hand. He put his number in and handed her mobile back to her. "I'll see you 'round then, yeah?" he asked, brushing his blond hair out of his eyes. The light breeze kept tossing his fringe back in his face, and it was starting to get on his last nerve.

t o i l a n d t r o u b l e - - - Juniper smiled and nodded, noticing for the first time that Jayden's hair was longer than her own. Curious. "Yeah, see you around," she said with a happy wave, turning and heading into the mall. She had a party to attend later that day, and still hadn't found anything suitable to wear.
She was quite intrigued by this new acquaintance, and pulled her phone back out of her bag. Though of course it was strange and possibly crazy, the city seemed to be teeming with small-time celebrities and it wouldn't be too far of for him to be one too. He definitely looked the part. She googled his name, and after a quick skim, found out that he was indeed a very small-time celebrity, a pianist in fact. She'd taken piano lessons when she was younger, but ditched them quickly. Still, musical instruments intrigued her. - - - s o m e t h i n g w i c k e d t h i s w a y c o m e s - - -
